The second phase of the Budget Session witnessed a stormy start today, with the MPs of the Opposition parties demanding the resignation of Home Minister Amit Shah and launching a protest in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha over the violence which has killed 46 people in Northeast Delhi. Both the Houses were adjourned till 2 pm soon after the Parliament session began.

On Saturday, Congress President Sonia Gandhi chaired a meeting of the Parliament Strategy Group and directed party leaders to question the Narendra Modi government on its response to the rising tensions in the national capital.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman would move 'The Direct Tax Vivad Se Vishwas Bill, 2020, for consideration and passing. The Bill aims to provide for resolution of disputed tax. The Medical Termination of Pregnancy (Amendment) Bill, and the Aircraft (Amendment) Bill, Mineral Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2020, are among other Bills that will be tabled in the Lok Sabha.

The Budget session 2020 will conclude before the end of March.

Congress MPs protest in Parliament complex over Delhi riots

Congress MPs, including former party chief Rahul Gandhi, on Monday held a protest inside the Parliament premises over the issue of communal riots in Delhi and demanded Home Minister Amit Shah's resignation.

 

Leaders from the opposition party have also given adjournment notices in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, demanding a debate over the violence in Delhi which has claimed at least 42 lives.

 

Demonstrating in front of the Mahatma Gandhi statue inside the Parliament complex, Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi, Adhir Ranjan Choudhary, Shashi Tharoor and others raised slogans and demanded Shah's resignation.

 

The Congress MPs held placards reading 'Save Our India', 'Prime Minister Must Answer' and 'Shah Must Resign'.

 

"When Delhi was burning, our home minister was playing the host in Ahmedabad. Playing a host is fine, but when Indians were being killed, that should have been the priority," Congress' leader in Lok Sabha Chowdhury said referring to the 'Namaste Trump' programme in which Shah had participated.

Delhi violence: Congress demands Amit Shah's resignation

The Congress held protests outside parliament on Monday, demanding Home Minister Amit Shah's resignation for allegedly failing to maintain law & order in Delhi. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was also seen to be back in action after his rumoured vacation.

 

Holding posters like "PM jawab do" and chanting slogans of "Amit Shah istifa do", the Congress brigade was seen standing around Gandhi statue in the parliament premises. Party MPs Gaurav Gogoi, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury and Shashi Tharoor among others demanded Shah take responsibility for the Delhi riots that killed at least 45 people including a Delhi police personnel on duty and an IB staffer with 400 injured.

 

However, Rahul Gandhi wasn't seen chanting slogans.

Opposition politicians create riot in street and fight in Parliament, says Naqvi

Union Minority Affairs Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi on Monday targetted opposition and alleged that some of its leaders create a riot in the street and fight in Parliament.

 

Talking to ANI, Naqvi said: "There are politicians from the opposition who create a riot in the street and fight in Parliament. All culprits behind the violence will be punished. We are ready for every debate in Parliament. Peace and harmony is our priority."

 

"We are not the first who amended the citizenship laws. Previous governments also amended it several times. I request the opposition to not spread rumours against the CAA. We should all appeal for peace and not provoke people," he added.

Congress, AAP, TMC MPs hold separate protests against govt over Delhi riots

Congress, Trinamool and AAP MPs staged separate dharnas on Monday near the Gandhi statue in Parliament, demanding answers from the government on the Delhi riots on the first day of the second half of the Budget Session.

 

Covering their eyes with black bands and holding a finger on their lips in an apparent imitation of the Gandhi's Three Monkeys, MPs like Mohua Mitra, Sukhendu Shekhar Rai were part of the protest.

 

Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi, Adhir Ranjan Choudhary, Shashi Tharoor and others held placards demanding answers on the Delhi riots and the resignation of Home Minister Amit Shah.

 

Another protest, this time by four AAP MPs -- Sanjay Singh, Bhagwant Mann, N D Gupta and Sushil Gupta -- was held in front of Gandhi statue of Parliament against violence in Delhi. They raised slogans of "BJP murdabad".
