The imminent Assembly elections in four states have spurred the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leadership to ask its Members of Parliament and Mahila Morcha workers to keep ministers in the Narendra Modi Cabinet on their toes.

External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj on Friday advised the BJP women’s wing workers to chase ministers in the Modi government to ensure implementation of promises made in the manifesto and within deadlines, so  workers don’t have to face embarrassment when they return to the people to ask for votes.

Swaraj cautioned that people who had given the party a massive mandate were unlikely to be patient with the government. “We need to accomplish much and quickly,” she said, terming it an “agni pariksha” or trial by fire for all ministers, including herself, on the people’s expectations.
