Petitions filed for bail cancellation of Som and other accused

The district authorities have filed petitions in the sessions and high court seeking cancellation of bail to the BJP MLA Sangeet Som and other accused who were arrested for their alleged role in inciting communal violence here.

Public counsel Dushyant Tyagi said that 25 petitions have been filed in sessions and High Court, challenging release of Som and other accused in the Muzaffarnagar riots .

Last Sunday, Som was released from Muzaffarnagar district jail here after the neighbouring Deoband court gave him bail.

The MLA, accused of uploading a fake video that played a role in provoking communal tension in Muzaffarnagar in September, was arrested in Meerut on September 21.

Seven persons, including the MLA, were detained by district authorities here for their alleged role in the riots that left over 60 people dead and rendered 40,000 homeless.
