Privileges committee seeks action against Karnataka minister
Labour Minister Qamarul Islam is accused of misleading the House by providing 'false' information regarding alleged encroachment of Wakf properties
Press Trust of India Bangalore The Privileges Committee of the Legislative Council has sought action against Labour Minister Qamarul Islam for misleading the House by providing "false" information regarding alleged encroachment of Wakf properties. Committee Chairman G Madhusudhan submitted the report to Council Chairman, D H Shankaramurthy.
The matter was referred to the Privileges Committee after Opposition Chief Whip in the Council A H Shivayogiswamy moved a privilege motion against Qamarul, then in charge of Wakf also, for misleading the House by providing "false" information on the report related to encroachment of Wakf properties.
Shivayogiswamy had wanted the Council Chairman to look into whether Qamarul's statement had amounted to breach of privilege of the members as the information provided to him was incorrect.
