Rajiv Pratap Rudy is the general secretary of the BJP and a member of the RSS as well. He was a lecturer at a college in Patna prior to entering state politics but was actively involved in student politics during his days at Panjab University.
Rudy, who holds a commercial pilot’s license, was elected to the Lok Sabha as a candidate of the BJP in 1996. His stood from Chapra in north Bihar.

He was elected in 1990 as an Member of the Bihar Legislative Assembly, and to the Lok Sabha as a BJP candidate in 1996.
He was re–elected in 1999 and served as Minister of State for Commerce, Trade & Industry. He subsequently became Civil Aviation Minister with independent charge in the NDA government under Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
Rudy has also been involved with the youth wing of the BJP, and has been National Vice President of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha. He is also a member of the BJP National Executive. He was re-elected to Rajya Sabha from Bihar in 2010.
He contested the 2014 Lok Sabha Elections from the Rajput- and Yadav-dominated Saran constituency and defeated Lalu Prasad's wife, Rabri Devi, in a close fight.
