Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Rajnath Singh on Friday hailed the contribution of migrants towards the growth of New Delhi.

Addressing media here, Singh said: "I believe that migrants in Delhi have contributed to the development of GDP (Gross Domestic Product), although the Congress considers them a burden. We cannot ignore this."

"The Congress is always interested about forming the government, while the Bharatiya Janata Party believes that politics should be done with an aim to bring development in the society and the country," said Singh.

Delhi will go to polls on December 4.

Indian media often presents the 2014 elections as a face-off between Rahul Gandhi and Narendra Modi. Surveys have shown that BJP could win as many as four of the five states - Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Delhi and Mizoram, which are poll bound in November and December.

The results of the state polls to be declared on December 8, will largely hinge on local leaders and issues, but analysts say a strong showing for the BJP will boost the momentum for its PM candidate Modi in the run-up to the national election due by April and May next year.
