Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi on Monday mocked Prime Minister Narendra Modi a day after the second anniversary of 'Swachh Bharat' mission and said that the latter never held the broom correctly in his lifetime.

The Congress vice-president, who is presently in the last leg of the Kisan Yatra in Amroha in poll-bound Uttar Pradesh, said the Prime Minister only held broom two years ago in the name of 'Clean India' initiative.

"Prime Minister Modi held broom once and if you see the photo, he held it in a wrong way. This means that he didn't hold the broom in his entire lifetime," Gandhi said.

"He held the broom twice but you must not have seen him holding a broom ever after that," he added.

Gandhi further said that he was surprised over the sudden announcement of 'Swachh Bharat' Abhiyan.

"Prime Minister Modi, who failed to give jobs to the youth, astonishingly said pick up the broom and let us clean India, we will make clean India," said Gandhi.

He further lamented Prime Minister Modi for not giving jobs to the youth of the country.

"There is a Babbar Sher (referring to Make In India's icon), which has not been able to give jobs to the youth of this country," he said.

The Congress vice-president mockingly said that the Prime Minister has become a selfie machine, who only takes pictures.

The Congress Vice-President kicked off his roadshow from Deoria in eastern Uttar Pradesh to Delhi, starting on September 6. His display of strength is expected to traverse 233 assembly constituencies to reach out to people ahead the polls in the state early next year.

Announcing the programme, Congress general secretary Ghulam Nabi Azad had said the Congress vice president would travel through 39 districts covering 2,500 km in the month-long exercise.
