TN govt completes 218 schemes of the 666 announced by ex-CM Jayalalithaa

Chief Minister O Panneerselvam says 317 are currently under implementation, while govt orders have to be issued for another 121

Responding to the attention motion in the State assembly on a complaint that  schemes announced by former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and AIADMK Supremo J Jayalalithaa remain on paper and are not being implemented, Chief Minister O Panneerselvam said that 218 schemes of the 666 announced by his predecessor have been implemented and that 317 are under implementation.

He said government orders have to be issued for 121 schemes, while eight schemes are pending with the central government and two have not been taken up for implementation, since the matters are in the Court.

According to the Chief Minister work is under progress to build a satellite town in Thirumisai consisting of 12,000 apartments at an outlay of Rs 2,160 crore.  Panneerselvam said the state government is also planning to construct 554 residential apartments at a cost of around Rs 100 crore.

Government orders have been issued for the housing project at a total outlay of Rs 918 crore in nine districts.

On the MoUs

The Chief Minister said four of the five companies that had signed an agreement to invest in the State in May 2012, have invested Rs 6,680 crore till now.

He added said out of the 12 Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) signed in November 2012, which would attract investment of Rs 20,975 crore, a sum of Rs 6,203.85 crore has already been invested by these companies.

This is the first time Panneerselvam is addressing at the Assembly since he took over as Chief Minister following Jayalalithaa's conviction by a Bangalore Special Court in a corruption case in September. Jayalalithaa was given a four-year jail term and a fined Rs 100 crore.
