Telangana govt plans Pharma City in Hyd

The proposed pharma city is expected to accommodate about 500,000 employees

The Telangana government is planning to set up a Pharma City in 7,000 to 8,000 acres around Hyderabad in about a year's time.

Chief minister, K Chandrasekhara Rao, indicated this to bulk drug manufacturers association president, Jayanth Tagore and general secretary, RK Agarwal, who met him on Wednesday.

According to an official press release, the proposed pharma city is expected to accommodate about 500,000 employees. A 500-Mw power plant will be set up adjacent to the facility to provide captive, dedicated and uninterrupted power supply. The required land, infrastructure facilities, communication facilities and water supply will be provided by the government.

Once it is established, the chief minister wants all the drug manufacturers to move into the place. He suggested engaging an international consultant to develop the facility.

Bulk drugs association office bearers were stated to have informed the chief minister that the total production of pharmaceutical products in the state is currently valued at Rs 65,168 crore, while exports of medicines from Telangana state are valued at Rs 32,584 crore.
