Gehlot has been a long-time trade unionist and a three-term MLA. He was first elected to the Lok Sabha in 1996, then again in 1998, 1999 and 2004.
He has in the past been in charge of the BJP’s Scheduled Caste Morcha. This will be his first stint as a minister.
