 "Uddhav Thackeray apologises for Maratha rally cartoon in 'Saamana'")
Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray on Saturday apologised for the cartoon carried by the party's mouthpiece Saamna, mocking the Maratha rallies. Uddhav's decision comes after Shiv Sena drew immense flak from various political parties and organisations representing Maratha community for such a humour. The anger was such that on Tuesday, pro-Maratha organisation, Sambhaji Brigade stoned the office of Saamana in Mumbai.
Subsequently, First Information Reports were filed in various parts of the state against Uddhav and other leaders.
"Our intention was never to hurt or offend anyone through that cartoon. However, as the party president and editor of the newspaper, I tender an unconditional apology to the people of Maharashtra," Uddhav said. He further told reporters that many had tried to create controversies but the people of Maharashtra did not give into this.
When asked why there was a six day delay in tendering an apology, Uddhav alleged that the issue was escalated by the conspirators, adding that he would disclose who were involved in it at an appropriate time.
On party's demand to convene a special session of the state legislature to discuss Maratha community's demands including reservation, Uddhav informed that he has requested the chief minister Devendra Fadnavis for the same. He added that Fadnavis has agreed for the debate.
