UP tables Rs 14,856-cr Supplementary Budget in House

The Akhilesh Yadav government on Monday presented a supplementary Budget of over Rs 14,856 crore for the financial year 2014-15 in the Assembly.

On June 20, the government had presented the annual Budget 2014-15, which had increased by almost 25 per cent to Rs 2,74,705 crore, compared with Rs 2,21,201 crore last year.

The Annual Budget was Rs 14,857 crore more than the interim Budget that Yadav had tabled on February 21, 2014, for 2014-15. The interim Budget was tabled due to the impending Lok Sabha elections.

It seeks to provide Rs 427 crore to the Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) as grant towards revenue deficit. A Rs 100 crore would be provided for upgrading transmission network.

Besides, Rs 143 crore have been sought for interest payment on bonds issued by power discoms. They would also be provided Rs 540 crore for actual operational loss during 2012-13. UPPCL would be given about Rs 112 crore towards equity share for re-energising tube wells.

Under agriculture and allied departments, the Budget seeks over Rs 556 crore for building toilets under Swachh Bharat Mission (rural).

The state Public Works Department (PWD) would be given Rs 350 crore for rural roads and bridges. In addition, Rs 400 crore would be incurred on the upkeep of roads.

Besides, Rs 50 crore would be given to the ongoing project of connecting district headquarters with four lane roads.

During 2011-12 and 2012-13, the state annual Budget was estimated at Rs 1,69,416 crore and Rs 2,00,110 crore, respectively.
