Launching an indefinite hunger strike here against the formation of Telangana, YSR Congress Party chief Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy on Saturday said his party would approach the Supreme Court and ask it to tell the Centre to withdraw its arbitrary decision to bifurcate Andhra Pradesh.
"Why is no one talking about Bodoland, Gorkhaland or Vidarbha? We will be definitely going to the Supreme Court in protest. We are looking forward for some help, because this kind of arbitrarily doing, it is not helpful for the country. People are splitting this country for the sake of votes and seats," he told media here today.
The ruling Congress party had recently approved the creation of a new Telangana state, a move that has revived deep political divisions and raised fears of violence in the area.
Violent protests, shutdown, stone pelting and baton charge by security forces was reported on Friday from various parts of the southern Andhra Pradesh state which is reeling under the pressure of carving out a separate state affecting thousands of its residents.
Seemandhra, which comprises Coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema regions was affected by the shutdown call given by protesters who are in favour of a united Andhra Pradesh.
Andhra Pradesh non-gazetted officers (APNGOs) and other united-AP supporters have given a 48-hour bandh call, while the Jaganmohan Reddy-led YSR Congress has called for a 72-hour shutdown in the non-Telangana regions.
The Union Cabinet has endorsed the creation of a new Telangana state out of Andhra Pradesh and also said that Hyderabad would be the joint capital for a period of ten years.

The announcement was followed by an offer of a series of resignations from the federal ministers, including, Education Minister, M. M. Pallam Raju, Textiles Minister Kavuri Samba Siva Rao, Tourism Minister Chiranjeevi, and Junior Railway Minister Kotla Surya Prakash Reddy.
The measure has to be approved by the Andhra assembly and then parliament where the Congress does not have a clear majority.
