Probably, none would envision the Chief Minister of India's most populous and politically crucial state of Uttar Pradesh, to metamorphose into a foot soldier and spot inspect the state secretariat or a police station without prior notice and get the pulse of frontline government counters.
An unconventional CM though, Adityanath Yogi appears to be inspired by new management principle of 'disruptive innovation' to adapt its concepts in governance.
Akin to 'disruptive innovation', which creates new market and economic value chain, eventually disrupting existing milieu and displacing established market leaders, Yogi seems to be a man in a hurry to change the long established status quo in government functioning.
His unorthodox approach of mixing with lower rung staffers, directly interacting with common man and impromptu visits is making the bureaucracy jittery, which hitherto used to seamlessly meld in the past regimes.
The fact that quintessential political masters nurse personal agendas or personality cults, had always provided a leeway to officials play to the gallery and further their own vested interests.
Yogi, the sitting Gorakhpur Member of Parliament (MP), has already over the years acquired the image of a street fighter despite being a seer and head of the powerful Gorakshnath Peeth in the eastern UP district.
During his successive terms as MP, Yogi acted swiftly on complaints pertaining to harassment, land grabbing and atrocities on any section of community. His tactic of reaching the spot himself always put pressure on the administrative and police to act with alacrity.
Even after getting elevated to the coveted post, Yogi hasn't changed his style of functioning or simplistic lifestyle. His unconventional approach to governance and perceptible personal integrity and uncompromising stance on corruption and law and order are other factors causing nervousness among the top brass of officials.
While the policy related agendas mentioned in the UP Vision Document of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) dispensation would understandably take some time to materialise, promises pertaining to the administration have started to fructify.
While, the BJP promise to shut down illegal abattoirs on coming to power has started to rollout, the state is beginning to witness improved policing with the emphasis on women safety, which was part of its manifesto to constitute anti-Romeo squads to book eve-teasers.
A major reason for the poll loss of the of the previous Akhilesh Yadav government was the bad perception about law and order, despite the claims of mega infrastructure projects undertaken by the dispensation.
Since, law and order is the direct concern of common man, the Yogi government is making all-out efforts to contain small thefts, chain snatchings, burglaries, road holdups, drinking in public places, drunken brawls etc, which had become the order of the day in the previous regime.
