Mr. Pradeep Devaiah - Chairman and CEO, PDA Trade Fairs Pvt., Ltd., said, “IndiaWood has had a modest beginning in 1999 with just 103 exhibitors from India and overseas. It was more of an educative platform for the Indian Woodworking Industry, but ever since then, its broken new ground, edition after edition. We are pleased to say that IndiaWood 2010 will have over 450 exhibitors from 30 countries around the world. IndiaWood is now more than ever in a unique position to cater to the entire spectrum of the woodworking industry.”

He said, “A decade back the woodworking industry in India has mostly been manual and was largely dependent on skilled labor. Whereas, western countries were far ahead by using sophisticated machinery and technology. The lack of mechanization and technology know-how was a severe limitation to the growth of the woodworking industry in India. The technology used by the developed countries was not only of superior quality but was also stressing on eco-friendliness. The scope of the industry was made even bigger by the advent of technology to minimize wood waste and create by-products from the already available wood waste. These were some of the factors that prompted us to do a trade fair focused on the wood industry. As India embraced the technology there was a spurt in the wood industry creating greater employment opportunities. Several allied industries mushroomed to support the growing wood industry creating jobs and entrepreneurs.”

“India has turned out to be manufacturing hub as well as a strong buyer market. Most International companies are looking at India to revive their sales and revenues.” He added.

Over the years IndiaWood is turning out to be one of the most definitive wood working industry show outside USA and Europe. IndiaWood is shaping out to be the industry hub for India as well as the Asian and Gulf markets.

The Indian domestic furniture industry is estimated to be worth around U.S. $7 billion and growing at 20% and is mostly dominated by the unorganized sector, with the organized sector accounting for only 20% of the share.
