ACC Limited is setting up a mega cement project of capacity 3 million tonnes per annum of cement at Ghughus in the Chandrapur district of Maharashtra at a cost of about Rs. 1500 crores. The project is expected to be completed in the third quarter of 2010. An MOU in this regard was signed between the company and the Government of Maharashtra today.
Mr Ashok Chavan, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Mr Rajendra Dardaji, Hon’ble Industries Minister, Mr Sachin Ahirji, Hon’ble State Minister for Industries and Mr J. P. Dangeji, Chief Secretary to the Government of Maharashtra, were present when the MOU was signed by Mr Azeez Khan, Principal Secretary (Industries) on behalf of the Government of Maharashtra. ACC was represented by Mr Sumit Banerjee, Managing Director, Mr Ramit Budhraja, Chief Executive (South West), Mr Sunil Kamalakar Nayak, Chief Financial Officer and Mr T N Tiwari, Chief Public Affairs Officer.
Mr Azeez Khan, Principal Secretary (Industries), highlighted the fact that the company is establishing this unit in the backward area of the state and thereby supporting the objective of the Government of achieving balanced growth. He was also happy that ACC Limited was further consolidating its long presence in Maharashtra.
Mr Sumit Banerjee, Managing Director, ACC Limited, said, “This will be an environment friendly plant and ACC has invested considerable resources to ensure highest standards in environment management. The central control room is designed as a Green Building, among the first Green Buildings that are functionally part of a manufacturing establishment. We are also setting up a new captive power plant of 25 MW capacity to cater to the project’s power requirement.”
Mr Ramit Budhraja, Chief Executive (South West), ACC Limited, stated that “The project is expected to contribute significantly in servicing the growing market and strengthen our presence in the region.”
Mr Rajendra Dardaji, Hon’ble Industries Minister, thanked ACC for putting up the Mega Project in Chandrapur District as it would contribute to the economy as well as help in generation of jobs for locals and assured all possible incentives and encouragement for the project.
Mr Ashok Chavan, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Maharashtra stated, “I am extremely happy that the state is taking a positive step in establishing its long-term relationship with ACC Limited to bring this core project in the D zone area. It is one more step in the development of Maharashtra through the establishment of a Mega Project in a backward area. Speaking on the occasion, he said “Maharashtra has always been at the forefront of industrial development and has provided superior infrastructure to industries.”
