Advinus Therapeutics Wins Mumbai Regional Finals of BioQuizitive 2010

Suraj Menon and Siddhartha De of Advinus Therapeutics today won the Mumbai Regional Finals of BioQuizitive 2010, India’s first life sciences quiz for corporate. More than 20 teams from across Mumbai and Pune contested in the regional rounds. Arnab Bhattacharya and Anand Kant Das of Tata Institute of Fundamental Research were declared the Runners Up. The corporate quiz, hosted by Bangalore based Lotus Clinical Research Academy, brought together the sharpest quizzing minds to battle it out for the regional championship at the R D National College Auditorium at Bandra.

All teams took part in a preliminary written round of 20 questions, out of which four top 2-member teams, two from Advinus and a team each from TIFR and Deutsche Bank, were invited on stage for an interesting series of five quiz rounds culminating with an exciting connection round. The five rounds were titled Walk the Talk, Fox Trot, Canterbuzzing, Galloping Ahead and Finish Line.

There were many questions for the audience called ‘Audience Quotient’. There was also a Mumbai Special comprising of ten questions on the city which quizzed the audience on trivia such as how many islands constituted the original Mumbai, who is Nariman Point named after, why is Flora Fountain called so, when was the Gateway of India inaugurated and so on.

The quiz was conducted by Quiz Master Prakash Subbarao, Head of Bangalore Quiz Group and an established tutor and quizmaster in the growing business and general quizzing circuit across India.

Mr. Sudhir Pai, Managing Director of Lotus Clinical Research Academy commented on the exciting Mumbai Rounds: “It has given us immense satisfaction to host the inaugural round of BioQuizitive 2010 in Mumbai and we are quiet fascinated by the level of quizzing and the sharp minds revealed during this contest. Moving forward we would like to see enhanced participation and many more cities covered.”

Mumbai Regional Rounds is the first leg of BioQuizitive 2010 and the other regional rounds will happen at Ahmedabad, Hyderabad and Bangalore on 5th, 18th and 25th September 2010 respectively. The regional round at Bangalore will be followed by the National Finals at the same venue. The total prizes being offered are worth INR 7 lakhs. The national winning team will win a cash prize worth INR 2 lakhs. Bioquizitive will also offer exciting prizes for audience across these cities.

The Mumbai Regional Rounds demonstrated sharp minds and brilliant quizzing and offered the avid quizzers of the city another platform for some fun and quizzing extravaganza. The Mumbai winners will now compete with the other three finalists for the Grand Prize in Bangalore.

The Chief Guest for the evening, Mr. Sudhir Pai, Managing Director of Lotus Clinical Research Academy gave away the prizes to the winners.
