Aims to foster technological excellence and innovation in clean and sustainable solutions

Commemorating its 100 years of glorious presence in the country, Alstom, the global leader in the world of power generation, power transmission and rail transport, instituted the “Alstom Centennial Award for Technological Excellence” to honour outstanding achievements in the field of technological excellence and innovation. Patrick Kron, Chairman and CEO, Alstom launched the award in India today.

On this special occasion Mr. Kron said, “It is a significant year for everyone at Alstom as we celebrate the Centennial Year in India. India is one of the top investment destinations for us. The government’s increased focus on infrastructure development lends us visibility and market opportunities. The presence of all three businesses - Power, Transport and Grid - has further given us a competitive edge in the market.”

As the Indian economy surges forward, and the demand for energy and mobility increases, there is a greater need for technologies that are “clean and green”. Alstom, a global leader in the development of clean technologies in all its sectors, announced the Award to encourage breakthroughs, innovations and best practices in the Indian technology community.

The ‘Alstom Centennial Award for Technological Excellence’ would be conferred either annually or biennially and carry with it a citation and a monetary value. The theme of the Award and the scope of innovations covered are related to the businesses that Alstom is engaged in. Selected by a “blue ribbon” group of luminary scientists and engineers, both Indian and European, the Award is an effort to strongly recognise technological excellence of an individual, company or community in a wider sense. In fact, it is a showcase platform of excellence, advancements, sustainability and trailblazing leadership initiatives.

Sunand Sharma, Country President, Alstom India, while congratulating employees of Alstom in India on the occasion, said, “Alstom’s role in enabling and developing India’s infrastructure has been well realized. We have grown to assimilate the needs of the nation as we go along with the progressive and growth-oriented nature of the market. Our topmost priority has always been and will always be to support government’s endeavor to meet the infrastructure needs of the country.”

Following this acquisition the High Voltage Transmission and the Power Electronics activities have been allocated to Alstom and the Medium Voltage activities allocated to Schneider Electric.

Because AREVA T&D India Limited is a publically listed entity in India, the allocation of its activities follows a different process and timeline, in accordance with local regulations.
