Becomes the Principal Hospitality Sponsor for the Cycle Polo Tournament

As a Global education community that inspires individuals to develop their intellectual artistic and professional talents to the highest degree, Apeejay Stya University, the philanthropic wing of Apeejay Stya Group has become the hospitality sponsor for the Cycle Polo Tournament, 2011.

The Army Equestrian Centre, the premier equestrian facility of the Army has initiated the Cycle Polo Tournament, 2011. Together The Army Equestrian Centre, Army Polo & Riding Club have become the organizers of the Inaugural Quarter Master General Invitational Cycle Polo Tournament, being held from June 24 till June 30, 2011 at the Ground No 1, Army Equestrian Centre, Brar Square, Dehi Cantt.  The tournament is featuring eight teams including four outstation invitee teams from Military stations of Ahmednagar, Jhansi, Patiala and Hissar, besides three teams from Army Polo and Riding Club and the President Body Guard Team.

“Sports plays a vital role in the overall development of a student. A key focus of Apeejay Stya Group is to encourage new talent in India among the younger generation. Cycle polo introduced in 1990s, is relatively new as compared to other sports and is being widely played internationally.  Our hope is that students are not only able to excel in the usual sports prevalent in schools but moreover are able to widen their horizons by participating and excelling in such new sports”, said Mr. Aditya Berlia, Pro-Chancellor of Apeejay Stya University.

Notably, Apeejay Stya Group has been encouraging young talents engaged in different sports and arts. The group  has also been helping out events like Delhi Horse Show race each year. Moreover the newly established university of the group which is based on liberal arts also empowers students through various such extracurricular activities.

Conducted under the patronage of the Chief of the Army Staff, the tournament is being played on a semi league basis in two pools of four teams. Lt Gen  Chetinder Singh, AVSM, SM, VSM, Quarter Master General,  is also a playing member of APRC Team. The tournament is featuring local Delhi players of Cycle Polo viz Mr Jai Shergill, Dr Tony Singh and officers from the Indian Army. A large proliferation of young soldiers of the Armoured Corps who are donning colors of their respective field formations and training centre emerged during the draws of the tournament, held on June 23, 2011. The finals of the tournament will be played on 29th June 2011. A High Goal Exhibition Match will be played on 30th June 2011.
