  • Audi India records 64 percent growth (year-to-date)
  • Vehicle sales in October 2009: 116 cars
  • Audi clear premium market leader in Europe
  • Strong performance in China and global markets

Audi, the German luxury car manufacturer, today announced year-to-date growth at an impressive 64 percent (Jan-Oct 2009: 1,449 cars; Jan-Oct 2008: 884 cars). Audi India has recorded strong growth all year around in spite of the difficult market conditions. The sales stood at 116 cars for the month of October 2009, thereby registering a growth of 8 percent (107 cars in October 2008).

Commenting on the remarkable sales performance Mr. Benoit Tiers, Managing Director, Audi India, said, “Audi India has continued its sales momentum in October 2009. We have again shown growth, this clearly demonstrates our consistency in performance. Inspired by our philosophy of ‘Vorsprung durch Technik’, Audi India has been instrumental in creating new benchmarks in terms of sales and service thereby establishing Audi as a manufacturer of progressive, sophisticated and technically superior luxury cars. Our consistent sales growth is also a strong indication of the increasing familiarity and wide acceptance of the brand by car enthusiasts across the country. ”

Year 2009 has witnessed remarkable progress for Audi India, through the launch of new models - the new Audi A6, the Audi Q5, the new Audi Q7, introduction of three new engines to the existing range of Audi A4 and the expansion of its footprint across India.

As the registration statistics of the European manufacturer’s organization ACEA show, Audi is the clear market leader in terms of new car registrations in the overall European premium segment. AUDI AG sold around 705,300 cars worldwide from January through September. The cumulative result is thus a mere 7.5 percent behind last year’s record (2008: 762,288 cars) in a situation that continues to be difficult. In the first three quarters of the year, the company’s unit sales were ahead of the projected figures, with Audi aiming to deliver approximately 900,000 cars to customers in 2009 as a whole.

AUDI AG is also continuing on its growth curve in China. The company has already exceeded last year’s unit sales volume.

This makes 2009 the most successful year in Audi’s 21-year history in China. Since January, Audi has delivered 118,196 cars in China, an increase of 22 percent over the corresponding prior-year period.
