Derius Chenai clinches gold for India in Trap shooting

The host country added another Gold today in Shooting at the 3rd Commonwealth Youth Games in Pune. Chenai K Darius clinched the Gold in Men’s Trap Shooting while Ankush Bhardwaj won the Bronze in 10m Air Pistol Men.

In a nail biting finish in Trap shooting, Chenai K Derius consistently hit the targets to win Gold for India with 128 points. Burgia Ryan of Malta had to settle for Silver with 127 points. At the end of third round, Darius was trailing by 1 point. He kept his cool and snatched lead over his opponent by scoring 22 points in next two rounds. Mcnabb Michael of Australia got the Bronze with 125 points.

In 10m Air Pistol Men, India’s Ankush Bhardwaj could hit only two 10’s in final round to win Bronze. He had a chance to surge ahead when Chia Christopher of Singapore scored a poor 7.2 in fourth attempt in final round. Hendry Matthew James of Canada won the Gold with a total of 653.1 points while Singapore boy got the Silver with 650.7 points.

England boy Huckle James won the Gold in 50m Rifle Prone Men with a total of 687.6 points. Hall Matthew of Northern Ireland (686.5) and McAlpine Rory of Scotland (681.4) got the Silver and Bronze respectively. India’s Rushad Damania, who was tied with Rory of Scotland at the end of qualifying round, finished at 4th position with 679.3 points.

In 50m Rifle Prone Women, Scotland’s Copland Kay clinched Gold with 585 points while Binti Mohd Taufb Nurfarah Afiqah of Malaysia got the Silver with 582 points. Cox Sheree of England won the Bronze with 581 points.
