KPMG and ASAPP Media Group announced the winners of India’s first ever infrastructure awards, KPMG-Infrastructure Today Awards 2008. The awards have been instituted to recognize and felicitate exceptional work done in the Indian Infrastructure industry. The first KPMG-Infrastructure Today Awards were presented to 8 companies over three categories – Infrastructure Developers, Infrastructure Project Development Agencies (Central and State Government) and Infrastructure Financers.
The winners in the first category of ‘Infrastructure Developers’ included Tata Power (Most Admired company Power -Conventional); Suzlon Energy (Most Admired Company Power Non-Conventional); GMR Ltd (Most Admired company – Transportation) and Larsen & Toubro (Most Admired Company – overall infrastructure).
Power Finance Corporation (Most Admired Enabler –Power); Ministry of Civil Aviation (Most Admired Enabler – Transportation) and Gujarat Infrastructure Development Board (Most Admired Enabler - Urban Infrastructure) were announced winners in the second category of ‘Infrastructure Project Development’.
In the third category of ‘Infrastructure Financers’, the award was presented to State Bank of India (SBI). The first KPMG - Infrastructure Today Awards 2008, recognized Mr. GM Rao (GMR Group) as the Infrastructure Person of Year.
The awards were presented by Chief Guest Dr. Montek Singh Ahluwalia, Dy. Chairman Planning Commission, Govt. of India amidst three hundred senior professionals associated with the infrastructure industry at Taj Palace, New Delhi. “I congratulate the organizers for instituting such an award which recognizes the work being done in the infrastructure sector.” According to him the infrastructure sector has witnessed growth and Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) ensures there will be exchange of ideas and new initiatives which will redefine limits in this sector.
The awards are unique in that various companies were short-listed in their respective categories based on nominations by their peer community and the winners were selected by a respected panel of jury members comprising: Mr. Arun Nanda, Executive Director, Mahindra & Mahindra, Mr. Pradeep Singh, Vice Chairman & MD. IDFC projects Ltd, Mr. S.S. Kohli, CMD, IIFCL, Mr. Suresh Prabhu, Hon’ble Member of Parliament, Mr. Luis Miranda, President & CEO, IDFC Private Equity and Mr. Arvind Mahajan, Executive Director, KPMG Advisory Services Pvt. Ltd.
