FUJIFILM India Pvt. Ltd., the wholly owned subsidiary of FUJIFILM Corporation, Japan, which is one of the world’s largest photographic solutions company, has announced that Fujifilm's ground-breaking Super CCD EXR sensor and the FinePix F200EXR, the camera that debuts this technology, have both received outstanding critical acclaim in Europe. The Technical Image Press Association (TIPA) has voted the FinePix F200EXR Best Compact Digital Camera 2009, whilst the award for Best Imaging Innovation 2009 was awarded to Fujifilm's Super CCD EXR sensor. The third award went to Fujifilm Photobook Brilliant in the category Best Photo Service 2009.

TIPA is a global association comprising 29 different photo and imaging magazines from 13 countries. The hotly contested TIPA awards are considered the 'Oscars' of the photo and imaging industry.

Mr. Kenichi Tanaka, Managing Director, FUJIFILM Corporation India, said, “Fujifilm Finepix is respected for innovation, technology, quality, cutting–edge design, range, and colors. TIPA’s prestigious recognition to our EXR technology and FinePix F200EXR underscores Fujifilm's commitment to creating unique products and rich new technologies that meet the evolving imaging needs of today's customers. We are confident that the consumers in India will truly enjoy the capabilities that FinePix F200EXR has to offer.”

TIPA judges were impressed by Super CCD EXR's ability to flex its "behaviour" dependent on the subject being photographed. Packing this cutting-edge technology into a pocket-sized digital compact, Fujifilm have created a camera that appeals to both amateur photographers and professionals alike.

Best Imaging Innovation – Super CCD EXR
The following statement from TIPA explains the reasons for the award:
“The EXR sensor is essentially a combination of the known HR and SR technologies allowing the sensor to change its ‘behavior’ depending on the subject. This moves the Super CCD technology to the next level. A new arrangement of the mosaic color filter helps to create a high sensitivity image sensor with little noise. A new technology called Close Incline Pixel Coupling helps to minimize false colors.”

Best Compact D-Camera – FinePix F200EXR
TIPA provided the following commendation:
“The FinePix F200EXR utilizes groundbreaking technology to create an unprecedented level of image quality from a consumer level compact. In EXR Mode, the photographer can choose which sensor setting is preferable for the subject to be photographed by choosing High Resolution Priority (HR) to maximize resolution, High ISO and Low Noise Priority (SN) for high quality low-light work or D-Range Priority (DR) for the best detail with high contrast subjects.”

Best Photo Service – Photobook Brilliant
TIPA highlighted the reasons behind the award as follows:
“Unlike digital press machines, the Photobook Brilliant workflow is entirely RGB-based, and can produce a much larger color space than other print processes. That means finer gradients, natural skin tones and saturated colors, particularly in the green and blue areas. In addition, photo paper is extremely durable, resulting in photo books of the highest quality.”

More From This Section

The new Super CCD EXR sensor of Fujifilm’s FinePix F200EXR digital camera can create an unprecedented level of image quality while addressing basic challenges common to most compact cameras: limited dynamic range, high noise, and poor color reproduction at high ISOs.

Mr. A. Rajkumar, Country General Manager (DSC), Fujifilm India, said, “Using the human eye as the basis for the perfect camera sensor, Fujifilm has yet again extended technological boundaries, creating a Super CCD capable of registering excellent levels of detail in all images clicked by the camera. We are confident that both professional and amateur photographers will appreciate the superiority of this technology compared to other offerings in this category.”

As Fujifilm’s most advanced compact digital camera to date, the FinePix F200EXR is the world's first production point-and-shoot digital camera to offer Fujifilm’s new Super CCD EXR sensor. The FinePix F200EXR’s sensor and color array generates high quality vivid images with its three selectable sensor modes such as Fine Capture Mode for high resolution, Pixel Fusion Mode for high sensitivity and low noise with ISO up to 12800, and Dual Capture Mode for wide dynamic range up to 800%. The FinePix F200EXR also features an EXR Auto Mode, combining automatic scene recognition with automatic sensor mode selection.

In addition to the new Super CCD EXR sensor, the F200EXR has 12-MegaPixels, a powerful Fujinon 5.0x wide angle optical zoom lens and a large 3.0" high-resolution LCD and offers the most advanced technologies available, including Dual Image Stabilization, Face Detection 3.0, and ISO settings of up to an unprecedented ISO 12800. This combination of features allow consumers to capture any shot, any place and at any time with the lowest noise to date.

The FinePix F200EXR offers three switchable sensor modes that can be manually or automatically controlled:

  • High Resolution mode (HR), which deploys all twelve million pixels, and is designed to offer the finest of detail of intricate subjects when light is full and even;
  • High Sensitivity and Low Noise mode (SN), which caps two adjacent pixels together to produce 6 million large photodiodes, which are big enough to absorb light in the darkest of conditions, to produce low-light shots of extraordinary quality with minimal noise and grain; and
  • Wide Dynamic Range mode (DR), which captures different exposures with two sets of six million pixels, which, when combined, give an unprecedented level of detail in the highlights and shadows that would otherwise be lost.

The heady combination of cutting-edge technology encased within an easy to carry compact body means that photography enthusiasts will be able to take breathtaking pictures even in the most challenging of conditions.
