HTWs Canvironment Week goes global

Canvironment Week, Hindustan Tin Work’s first Global Metal Can Recycling Movement to preserve the environment through decisive proactive initiatives has now gone global with the launch of its website in London today.

The website www.canvironmentweek.com, launched today by Allan Sayers, will impart necessary information and updates about the movement to the people across the globe and encourage their participation to ensure concrete actions at the local level. Allan Sayers is the Chief Executive of Sayers Publishing Group, which publishes monthly magazine The Canmaker - most widely circulated and prestigious publication on metal packaging.

Born in the Indian Sub-continent, the movement enjoys tremendous international support. In addition to the International Packaging Association (IPA) - an association of 16 major and independent can makers, of which 7 is from Europe, 5 from The Americas and 4 from Asia and Australia, can makers from Korea and Brazil have also pledged their support to the Canvironment Week.

A unique worldwide initiative, Canvironment week aims at not just educating but taking action as well. For the first time ever, Can makers and Brand owners across the world are coming together to create a ‘United Global Metal Can Recycling Movement.’

The week starting 10th November 2010 to 17th November 2010 is marked as the Canvironment Week.

The movement holds special significance as this year marks the 200th birth year of Cans and pays tribute to the father of canning, Nicholas Appert. In India the movement will be marked by providing Medicare to 200 rag pickers within the country.

This week will be extended on various other platforms like schools and colleges to promote activities like drawing and painting contests, art installation using cans to encourage the usage of this no-waste/ no loss material. Can collection drives for all sections of society will also be conducted.
