Indian firms among fastest to adopt Grid Tech

Research Shows Commercial Grid Computing Enters Mainstream Businesses in India
 
Enterprises Believe Service Oriented Architecture Is Essential To Business Efficiency
 
BANGALORE, India, 22 August, 2006 ? Oracle India Private Limited (Oracle India) today revealed that the rate of growth of Indian enterprises adopting grid computing technology is faster than enterprises in the US, Europe and in the Asia Pacific region. According to Oracle® Grid Index IV report released here today, India witnessed one of the sharpest increases in the grid adoption index11 Adoption Lifecycle Index is an indicator of the degree to which interest and intention are being turned into tangible action globally.
 
At 38 per cent increase, the high grid adoption rate implies the readiness and maturity of Indian enterprises to invest in modern, flexible and dynamic information technology infrastructure and commercial grid computing. Conducted among leading enterprises in India, the research findings showed that 45% of respondents believed that grid-based IT infrastructure is inevitable and an equal number envisaged it to become the future of IT infrastructure which will be able to support multiple lines of businesses across an organization.
 
"Indian organizations have become part of a complex global supply chain. Their profitability depends on innovative use of information technology," said Mr. SPS Grover, Vice President ? Sales, Oracle India. "Oracle® Grid Index IV clearly reflects the increasing use of leading technology such as Grid Computing and Service Orientated Architecture, by Indian enterprises."
 
The Oracle® Grid Index charts the global adoption of grid computing and analysis related technological issues and their implications for the business world. Conducted by an independent European firm, Quocirca, the research reveals that grid computing continues to be a maturing technology and highlights the rise of Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) in maximizing the business benefits of information technology. Indian companies showed a strong desire to move to SOA. Over 50% of the Indian enterprises said they are actively moving closer to or have already moved to an SOA infrastructure. However over 40% of Indian respondents think that it will be difficult for them to move over to SOA from their existing IT infrastructure.

As part of its continued commitment to improve customer service and productivity, it was critical for the bank to evaluate enterprise grid computing technology.

Grid Computing Matures And Readies Itself For The Mainstream The fundamental research conducted is dedicated to mapping the world's journey to Grid Computing. At a global level, measured on a scale of 0 to 10, the Oracle Grid Index has risen to 5.4 from its previous value, in November 2005, of 5.2. All of the underlying indices making up the overall Grid Index Foundation Readiness, Knowledge & Interest and Adoption Lifecycle show steady increases in virtually all geographies. Analysis of the Grid Index numbers over its previous three cycles reveal a pattern of maturing technology in the process of crossing the chasm between early adopters and mainstream use.
 
About the Oracle® Grid Index The Oracle® Grid Index is designed to map global progress on the journey towards Grid Computing. On behalf of Oracle, Quocirca carries out regular research, selecting and polling over one thousand organizations around the world on their knowledge of, attitude towards and adoption of Grid Computing. Respondents within each organization are senior decision makers working in lines of business (business respondents) or in the IT function (IT respondents). Numeric data, derived from the answers, gives a single number from 0 to 10 ? the Oracle Grid Index.
