Intertek, a leading provider of quality and safety solutions serving a wide range of industries around the world, organised a workshop on “Managing Processes and Power handling hazards.” Chief trainers present at the seminar were Mr. Vijay Bhujle, Process Safety Specialist, Intertek Expert Services and Mr. J Ganeshkumar, Process safety expert, Intertek Expert Services.
The equipment and methodologies required to successfully investigate chemical processes for hazards have been available for many years. In spite of this, accidents and incidents continue to occur. This seminar advocates a structured approach supported by theory and case studies focusing on the role that laboratory thermal data has in an overall risk minimization strategy.
“The seminar witnessed a participation of 29 Development Chemists, Safety Engineers, Chemical Engineers, Safety Specialists, EHS Specialists, Plant Managers, who examined ways of identifying hazards in their operations and taking suitable preventive measures” said Dr. Mara Beatrice Guzzetti, Head of EMEA & APAC Intertek Expert Services.
The seminar not only provided ample opportunities to understand the various hazards posed by static electricity, dust explosions but also gave the participants an opportunity to interact with industry experts in Thermochemistry, Process Safety and Engineering. Various powder handling practices, safety concepts, short films on power handling hazards and case studies were held at the seminar. The workshop also elaborated on the precautionary and safety handling measures with specific emphasis on drying and milling operations plus the risks involved therein.
