Karl Slym to be new President & MD of General Motors India

Rajeev Chaba appointed as CMD of GM Egypt

General Motors today announced the appointment of Rajeev Chaba, 43, as the Chairman and Managing Director of GM Egypt effective 1st October, 2007 after spearheading GM's growth in India for the past two years. Karl Slym, 45, will be the new President and Managing Director of GM India.
 
 
GM Asia-Pacific Group Vice-President and President, Nick Reilly, today congratulated Slym and Chaba on their appointments and thanked Chaba for his leadership in India during an important growth phase for GM.
 
 
"India is one of GM's most significant growth markets and Rajeev has led the GM team at an important time in our history. We are delighted to have Karl bring his extensive experience to maintain that growth," Reilly said.
 
 
"GM has made a massive commitment to expand our model lineup, dealer footprint, research and development facilities, engineering capability and manufacturing capacity.
 
 
"Rajeev has been an active advocate for developing GM's presence in India and overseen significant changes in a relatively short amount of time. Karl has proven himself in a range of disciplines within GM which makes him an ideal replacement."
 
 
Chaba assumed the role of President and Managing Director in June 2005, having been GM India's Chief Operating Office since September 2003 He joined GM India in 1995 and held roles in marketing, sales and aftersales. He worked as Marketing Director for GM Japan in 2002 and 2003 before returning to India as Chief Operating Officer.
