Holcim Foundation for Sustainable Construction, the flagship institution of Holcim Group, has extended the date for submitting entries for its Global Contest Holcim Awards till March 31, 2011. Receiving an immense response to the Contest, the Foundation has decided to extend the deadline for applicants who have registered before March 23, 2011.
The 3rd cycle of the Holcim Awards competition opened for entries on July 1, 2010 and will remained open from March 23, 2011 till March 30, 2011, provided that applicants should have registered before March 23, 2011. Only those applicants who have registered before March 23, 2011 and obtained a valid ID and password will get access to the online entry form after March 23, 2011 at 14:00 GMT and upto March 31, 2011 upto 14:00 GMT – no new entries can be started.
Holcim Awards is a unique and prestigious international competition organized by the Holcim Foundation for Sustainable Construction. The competition celebrates designs of innovative, future-oriented and tangible sustainable construction projects and visions from around the globe and provides prize money of USD 2 million per three-year competition cycle. The competition is organized on regional and global levels with two categories within the competition.
All entries will be evaluated and ranked in June/July 2011 by regional juries after a centrally-performed technical pre-assessment. The juries are supported by the respective partner university in each region and consist of independent, renowned representatives from science, business and society.
The jury for Asia Pacific region of Holcim Awards includes leading institutions and architects from India including Uday Athavankar, Professor of Architecture and Industrial Design, IIT Bombay and Architect Ashok B Lall.
Recently, Holcim Foundation for Sustainable Construction has partnered with IIT Bombay to champion the use of sustainable construction practices in India. Under the agreement, IIT Bombay has become the Partner University of Holcim Foundation for the region of Asia Pacific. Also, ACC Limited, part of Holcim Group, has signed an agreement with IIT Bombay to examine and recommend innovative approaches to sustainable construction, technology and design for affordable habitats.
