Manav Rachna, AIMA organise industry-academia panel discussions

The industry academia meet was focused on:

Manav Rachna College of Engineering, in collaboration with Faridabad chapter of All India Management Association (AIMA), organized a panel discussion on Industry- Academia interface today at the campus. The objective of the forum was to bridge the gap between the industry and academic world, highlighting mutual interdependence between the two and strengthen academia-industry partnerships, Training individuals for the jobs of the future and making them “Industry Ready professionals”.

The panel discussion was attended by eminent industry experts such as Mr. Rajeev Chawla, President FSIA; Mr. Rajeev Kapoor, Sr. Vice President, JCB India ltd; Mr. H C Sharma, Former Sr. V P Reliance Industries; Mr. Rohit Sinha, Head HR, Larsen & Toubro Ltd; Mr. Subhash Jagota Sr. Vice President, Faridabad Industry Association, Mr. Tyagrajan, ED, FMA, Mr. Ajay Gupta, Country Head Eli Research, Mr. Harish Kr. Mittal, Mr. P S Ahluwalia, Dy. GM, NTPC, Mr. S.K Verma, Dy. GM, Syndicate Bank etc.

Speaking over the forum, Prof. Naveen Prakash, Director Principal, Manav Rachna College of Engineering, MRIU said, “The idea of the Industry- Academia forum was to establish a sustained consultation activity with industry and to exploit and develop the outcomes of the projects of the students done in consultation with the industries in order to transfer theory into practice and how to improve Engineering education accordingly to the needs of the industry”.

Prof. (Dr) Amit Seth, Dean Industry Interface, MRIU in his keynote address emphasized that the universities and industry, which for long have been operating in separate domains, are rapidly inching closer to each other to create synergies. To meet the demand of technically qualified employees from the industry, many colleges have mushroomed in the area, churning out thousands of B. Tech and MBA students every year. However, there is a huge gap between the expectations of a company from job aspirants and the curriculum taught to the students in the colleges.

Mr. Subhash Jagota, moderator of the panel discussion stressed the need of using experts from the industry as faculty members and student’s mentors. He further highlighted the need of faculty from the academia to interact with the industry to better understand the changing demands of the corporate sector. He further gave an idea of conducting psychometric tests for all the students in order to gauge their area of interests and capabilities.

Mr. H C Sharma, Former Sr. V P Reliance Industries highlighted the paucity of skilled manpower and stressed on positive attitude along with knowledge and skills among the students. Mr. Rajiv Kapoor, Sr. Vice President, JCB India ltd urged the students to inculcate Indian value systems instead of chasing western culture. He also advised the students to develop the habit of out of the box thinking in order to succeed in this dynamic world.

Mr. Rohit Sinha, Head HR, Larsen & Toubro Ltd emphasized on interpersonal skills and leadership skills. He stressed on developing emotional quotient, empathy for co-workers and victory on self before leading a team. Mr. Rajeev Chawla advised the students to take up short term industrial projects to hone their employability skills and not just concentrate on theoretical knowledge. He was of the opinion that MSMEs can provide better training to young graduates than any blue chip company.

Prof. Naveen Prakash, Director Principal, Manav Rachna College of Engineering, concluded today’s session by discussing on the various international models of higher education system and urged the students to aim for excellence instead of mere competence in their future endeavors. The University has established Industry Institute Interaction Cell to impart innovative methodologies in teaching and moulding students to solve ‘real-world’ problems by training them on the best practices and cutting-edge technologies.

The meet provided a unique platform for interaction between industry professionals, academicians and students. This was an exceptional opportunity for the students and faculty members to understand the latest trends of today’s industry directly from the industry delegates and accordingly equip themselves with the skills required in a 'fast changing global scenario.
