Manav Rachna International University students conduct dope test in National Games

The University was approached by the dope control officials for assistance in conducting tests on the participating athletes for the National Games 2011. MRIU students had also worked very closely with the CWG Organising Committee, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports and Sports Authority of India (SAI) in preparation of Indian Sportspersons. 

Since its inception, Manav Rachna International University, Faridabad has achieved many milestones. Continuing with their spectacular achievements, the students of Manav Rachna International University were approached by Dope Control Officials for Dope testing the athletes in National Games -Jharkhand-2011. 

The National Games-Jharkhand-2011 was organised at different venues at Ranchi, Jamshedpur. The students from the different departments - Physiotherapy Sports Science, Nutrition and dietetics students who had obtained official training from Doping Control officials of Commonwealth Games –Delhi 2010 with accreditations by National Anti Doping Agency as Dope Control Officers, Chaperones to work as officials during reputed games. 

Since, MRIU had worked very closely with the CWG Organising Committee, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports and Sports Authority of India (SAI) in preparation of Indian Sportspersons for Commonwealth games, the University was the first choice for the same and was approached by the dope control officials for assistance with conducting tests on the participating athletes. 

Manav Rachna International University is well known in the NCR region for its quality of Education and students competence, and has been associated with sports both at national and international levels. Around 200 students have played an important role in Dope Testing during XIX Commonwealth Games Delhi-2010. 

34th National Games-Jharkhand were held from 12th February-26th February 2011 and many athletes from different disciplines participated in it. The National Anti Doping Agency had sought support from the students of Physiotherapy of Manav Rachna International University to limit the issue of doping amongst athletes and make the sports dope free games at all levels. The Students acted as Dope Control officers in all the venues during the games.

Acknowledging the achievements of the students, Dr O.P.Bhalla, Chancellor, MRIU said, “It is a matter of great pride & prestige for us. Training was being given to the students for the collection of the samples, Pharmacological agent, Banned drugs, dope control station, responsibilities and duties of Dope control officers, improving the communication and also about the National games 2011. 

Responsibilities of the Dope Control Officers 

1. To manage the dope control station in each stadium 

2. To fill up the forms and get all the required information about the drugs used by the sportspersons 

3. To collect and store the sample 

4. To send the samples collected to National Dope testing Laboratory (NDTL) for its analysis. 

5. Any other duties possibly education on Dope
