STYLO, a London-based Asian fashion entertainment fringe partner of world class sporting events signed an MOU today with Mercedes-Benz India to stage the Mercedes-Benz STYLO Fashion Grand Prix entitled “STYLO & the 7 Deadly Sins: Recycling is the new black’ in the run-up to the inaugural Indian Formula 1 Grand Prix.
The event which will be hosted in Mumbai also saw the involvement of official airline partner AirAsia X and celebrity haunt, “Hype’.
Launched in Kuala Lumpur to celebrate the 10th Malaysian Petronas Formula 1 GP in 2007 by Her Majesty the Queen of Malaysia, legendary shoe designer Jimmy Choo OBE and Mercedes-Benz, STYLO has been a key feature amongst well-heeled fans of the F1 since its inception. It often used avant-garde fashion as its platform, themed theatrical presentations as its tool, socialites and celebrity models as its participants and the well-heeled audience as its ardent supporters.
‘The bold and sometimes decadent style of fashion parties has made the by-invitation STYLO a much-coveted VIP invitation during the F1 of recent years”, said Dato’ Nancy Yeoh, President & CEO of STYLO International. STYLO holds the record of having created the world’s most expensive gown ensemble to date with its 2010 commission of “The Nightingale” valued at USD30million. The collaboration comprised a gown by Jendela KL and matching shoes by Jimmy Choo Couture studded with 701 diamonds; the smallest stone weighing 1 carat and the largest at 69 carats. Mouawad are the Swiss jewellers who created the diamond-studded Victoria’s Secret bra ensemble worn by Heidi Klum and Tyra Banks valued over USD10m.
As preview for its show during the 2012 Olympics season, STYLO recently debuted during the London Fashion week season with much success with its ‘7 deadly sins’ concept featuring fashion pieces created out of 108kg of recycled wastes. The fashion ‘garments’ utilised recycled tin cans, bottles, old newspapers, cardboard boxes, kitchen rolls and mosquito nets combined with 3D and 2D body art. “A success we hope to repeat here in Mumbai except that the volume of wastes utilised will double that amount as the fashion collection will be twice that size”, said Yeoh. “We hope to entertain, excite and disseminate messages of conservation to this sophisticated audience via fashion”.
Peter Honegg, President & CEO of Mercedes-Benz India said “We welcome STYLO to India and believe this fashion accompaniment will make our party unique, relevant and exciting. Not only is Mercedes-Benz a major player in the F1 race but also a big voice in fashion on a worldwide level”. Besides STYLO, Mercedes-Benz currently supports a myriad of fashion weeks and festivals around the world including the launching pad of world fashion, New York’s Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week.
