Amity Institute of Biotechnology organizes the Second Annual Biotechnology Extravaganza INCYTE 2011, a three-day science event at Amity University Campus, Noida, Sector-125. The mega event is entirely academic in nature which is boasts of an outreach of more than 3000 students from across the country.

Shukla, Pro-VC, (Academics), Amity University Uttar Pradesh and Dr. A.K. Srivastava, Director General, Amity Institute of Biotechnology inaugurated the event
Dr. Pradeep Bharadwaj, CEO, Six Sigma Star Health Care Limited, New Delhi presented his keynote address. Dr. Bharadwaj spoke on Health Care sector. He informed the august gathering that Biotechnology is one of the oldest professions of the world. Health Care is the only undertaking where maximum females are employed. The growth of Health Sector is 15 percent every year. He urged the students to make their knowledge update and strong enough to make a career on Health Care management. As we are managing 250 hospitals in India and want efficient and hard working people in the Hospital Management.
Prof. G.P. Talwar, Research Director, Talwar Research Foundation, New Delhi gave his presentation on, “Dual purpose recombinant vaccine for control of fertility and advanced stage cancers expressing hCG”. He shared his research knowledge on diseases like leprosy and cancer. The benefits the patients are getting from his research are presented before the students. He worked on a vaccine of immunotherapy for leprosy. He said, “Biotechnology has an inbuilt capability to convert ideas into products. I wanted to take up problem oriented research for the benefit of the country”
Prof. B.N. Mallick, School of Life Sciences, Jwaharlal Nehru University- New Delhi delivered a lecture on the topic “The Neurobiology of Sleep”. He stated, “neuro regulation of sleep is a broader aspect. It is one of the fore-runner of various scientific fields which include psychology, biotechnology and branches of medicine. We all have sleeping and waking patterns. As the brain regulates. So we call it neuro-regulation. Through the cells our body gets electrical signals and the body reacts to it. There is certain basic chemical process that happens because of which the reaction happens. Thousands of neurons are connected and the brain is organized. This is how behavioral studies are done. Mind-Matter relation ship becomes very dynamic and complicated at times.” Prof. Mallick discussed various sleep - awake pattern though his presentation.
While addressing the august gathering, Maj. Gen. K. Jai Singh, Vice Chancellor, Amity University Uttar Pradesh said, “INCYTE 2011 would prove to be a great learning experience not only for its proper management but for the three days of sharing knowledge and expertise of the eminent persons of biotechnology. So make the best of it by understanding the topics indepthly.”

In his inaugural speech Dr. A.K. Srivastava, Director General, Amity Institute of Biotechnology said that the entire biotech fraternity including teachers, corporate and researchers will be in one platform. The entire program is being encapsulated by the students basically. Therefore, the students should obtain full benefit from it. Topics like Neurobiology which is difficult and at the same time is an upcoming aspect going to be discussed at length. Invited dignitaries are going to present latest inventions and happenings which will enlighten the students in the various aspects of biotechnology.
During the following two days various interesting sessions would be unfolded themed on “Interface of Biological and Engineering Systyems” by Prof Mohendra Grover, Senior Scientist, National Bureau of Plant Generic Resources, New Delhi; “Protein Folding Paradox and India’s Stand in Bioinformatics” by Prof. B. Jayaram, Indian Institute of Technology, New Delhi; “Genome Analysis- from human to non-human systems, implications and applications; “An Introductory Lecture on Anthropology” by Prof. S.M. Patnaik and Prof. V.R. Rao Delhi University; “Bio-processing using RADE and NADF” by Prof. S.N. Mukhopadhyay, Indian Institute of Technology, New Delhi and many more.
The three day INCYTE shall play a host to a plethora of events comprising of lecture series presented by eminent biotechnologist, Academic talent showcase events like paper presentation, Poster competition, Debate on “Biopatenting should be outrightly permitted”, Biotechnology Quiz, Biotechnology Business Plan, Model Presentation, Bio-exhibition and Bio-ventura.
Special attraction of the third and the final day will be TEDxAmityUniversity. TED stands for Technology, Entertainment and Design. The themes are “Role of Biotechnology in shaping the Indian Society”; “Creativity” & “Social Science and the Joy of Giving”
