Nominations are now being accepted for the 2012 Global Energy Awards which recognize corporate and individual excellence in five main categories for a total of 20 individual performance awards (http://geaweb.platts.com/CategoryOverview.aspx), announced Platts, the program host and a leading global provider of energy, petrochemicals and metals information. All nominations must be received by September 10, 2012.
Recognized as the energy industry’s most renowned awards program and often described as “the Oscars of Energy,” the Platts Global Energy Awards, are in their 14th year and routinely draw hundreds of nominations from energy and non-energy companies alike. Last year Gail India won the award for having the best downstream operations and four other energy companies from India including Indraprastha Gas Limited, Reliance Industries Ltd, Indian Oil Corporation Limited, Cairn India Limited, were chosen as finalists under various categories.
"Energy is a key necessity for meeting India’s high economic growth expectations and hence, it will be interesting to watch how Indian companies present themselves while sending in their nominations this year. Interesting because like other sectors, they too have to deal with high inflation, the slowing growth rate of recent months, and a still slower pace of reforms,” says Vandana Hari, Asia Editorial Director, Platts. “But opportunities continue to arise, especially in the power, oil and gas industries, as a result of growing demand. Also, there is greater emphasis on increasing private sector participation and investment in energy. Managing to combine economy, ecology and society in their business strategies, though being a tough task, will be the key differentiator."
Every year Platts refines the Global Energy Awards to reflect the industry’s current state and focus. This year, it not only means a broadening of scope to more energy commodities, but also includes an award recognizing exemplary corporate social responsibility. In 2012, Platts is broadening and expanding its former Operational Excellence category to be commodity specific, recognizing outstanding achievement in each of the following commodity arenas: oil, natural gas, coal, electric power and petrochemicals.
In addition, Platts is also refining its former Community Development Program of the Year award into the Stewardship Award for Corporate Social Responsibility.
As in the past, an independent panel of judges will select the Energy Company of the Year from the list of finalists in the Vision and Leadership and Operational Excellence categories.
Eligible for nomination are any companies doing business in or in close association with the energy industry. Nominations may be submitted by individual energy companies themselves, their clients, their vendors and/or other industry associates.
