Company, acquired by Tata Technologies last year, sees India as essential to complete global delivery capability |
Mumbai, 26 July 2006 - INCAT, the world's leading independent provider of Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) services to the world's major automotive, aerospace and durable goods manufacturers, today announced it is launching operations in India. |
Warren Harris, COO of the Detroit-based INCAT, said: "We see an exciting future for INCAT in India. We need to be here for several reasons. India is an increasingly dynamic market in its own right. There are significant opportunities for us with the rapid growth of India's automotive and emerging aerospace industries. |
"Our global customers are continuing to establish their own engineering centers in India, and they are asking us to provide access to services from India for their global operations." |
INCAT, established in 1989 and previously listed on the London Stock Exchange AIM, was acquired in October last year by Pune-based Tata Technologies Ltd for £53.4 million - the largest Indian acquisition into the European software and IT services sector to date. |
According to Patrick McGoldrick, managing director of Tata Technologies, "We are proud to bring such a major company into India. Combining INCAT's high-end onshore strengths with offshore delivery capabilities from India means INCAT immediately becomes India's leading specialist company in global Engineering and Design (E&D) services. Our objective is for INCAT to become the world leader in the growing market for E&D and product-centric IT services - a market reported by NASSCOM to be worth US$650 billion." |
With the world's leading manufacturers identifying the development and introduction of new products as their key challenge over the coming decade, INCAT offers its Indian customers a significant advantage with its proven capabilities in product-centric business consulting. High level consulting is identified in a recent report by consulting firm Forrester* as an area of expertise that Indian firms need to develop. |
Commenting on INCAT's move into India, Mr Ed Miller, president of leading consulting and research firm CIMdata, said: "INCAT's launch in India is a very logical extension of their North American, European, and Japanese footprint. As manufacturers globalize operations and look for ways to cut operating costs, INCAT's ability to deliver Engineering & Design, PLM and ERP services anywhere in the world represents an extremely powerful proposition." |
INCAT's India Delivery Center is located at the Center for Advanced Engineering & Design in Pune. According to Mr Harris, "Including India, we have more than 3,000 employees in 45 cities in 12 countries, serving over 2,000 client organizations that include 10 of the top 10 automotive OEMs and 5 of the top 5 aerospace OEMs." |

Concept Note: |
IN THE GLOBAL BATTLE FOR SUCCESS, THE PRODUCT IS KING |
Superior performing companies know that distinctive products and services command the most value, and superior product development drives sustainable competitive advantage. |
In fact, the biggest challenge facing the world's leading manufacturing companies in sustaining revenue growth and profitability is developing and bringing to market unique products. And with almost 80% of new product development cost built into the design process itself, efficiently managing Engineering & Design cycles is critical for product success in the marketplace. At the same time, manufacturers are facing increased competition and regulatory pressure, together with user demand for more features and benefits, with shorter lifecycles and lower costs. All this places additional pressure on the efficiency of a company's product lifecycles. |

These challenges - and their solutions - are no longer confined to the domestic theater. The opportunities of globalization have led manufacturers to expand their operations onto a global stage, and to support their product optimization processes in this borderless market they expect their E&D services suppliers to have a similar global presence. The operational efficiencies gained by the simple off-shoring of such processes as ERP, SCM and CRM are now accepted industry practice and no longer offer sustainable competitive advantage. To develop and maintain a superior product portfolio requires a new business model, and leading manufacturers today demand not only high-end specialized services but also a new level of global customer intimacy from their Engineering & Design and Product Lifecycle Management partners. |
As a Tata Technologies company, INCAT is positioned to improve the way its customers meet these challenges, by driving down development, manufacturing and delivery costs, ensuring manufacturability and reducing time to market. |
Strategically, INCAT's combination of offshore delivery capabilities and high-end onshore strengths offers customers in the automotive, aerospace and engineering industries an unmatched portfolio of product optimization services together with a unique global delivery model. With operations in 45 cities in 12 countries on three continents and engineering talent from 27 different nationalities, INCAT is pioneering a new global model for the provision of specialized Engineering & Design services. |
