Schaeffler India to build R&D Centre in India

Schaeffler India, a major player in the Indian automotive components industry, will build a state-of-the-art research and development center in India for the Asia Pacific region, modernize its existing plants and add new product lines. The company will also invest in its human resource capital and increase its staff strength of 2,089 by 10% over the next three years.

Schaeffler India consists of the internationally famous brands of LUK, INA and FAG. It is one of the leading automobile components manufacturers and supplier of ball and roller bearings, clutch and clutch releasing systems, engine and transmission components in India. It operates a clutch manufacturing plant at LUK India in Hosur, manufactures engine and transmission elements at INA India in Pune and ball and roller bearings at FAG India at Vadodara.

Schaeffler India produces over 110 million parts per year for the Indian market through its three local production facilities. New generation vehicles have the contributions of Schaeffler India’s products in all segments offering innovative technology that is both economical and safe.

One out of every fourth new car produced in the world carries a LuK Clutch. LuK India has full access to the technology, expertise and management system of the Schaeffler Group.? ?LuK India, via its clutch manufacturing plant in Hosur, now supplies automotive and tractor clutches to almost all the major Indian manufacturers like Tata Motors, Mahindra & Mahindra, Suzuki, Ashok Leyland, Ford India, Toyota, Swaraj Mazda, Mahindra Tractors, New Holland, John Deere, International Tractors, Same, Tafe and Escorts. LuK is also working on advanced concepts like reduction in fuel consumptions and emissions, improved driving comfort, hybridization, cost and space savings. LuK India plans to manufacture latest technology products like hydraulic clutch release systems in India for the Indian market and will also introduce high performance friction material for the Indian market.

FAG Bearings India Ltd., located in Vadodara and existing since 1962, manufactures approximately 46 million bearings comprising of  Ball bearings, Cylindrical roller bearings, Hub bearings and Spherical roller bearings and is the second largest bearing company in the country. With its deep manufacturing and technology competence, FAG bearings from the Vadodara plant are exported to Europe, US and Asia and have received recognition from European and US customers like Daimler Chrysler, Volvo, Volkswagon, Renault, Voith, Otis and General Dynamics. In the Indian market, FAG  was the  first Indian bearing company to introduce advanced hub bearings for passenger cars and is today the largest supplier to passenger car industry in this product range. FAG’s advanced system solutions for wheels, power train and engine accessories support the automotive industry’s need for higher levels of integration, increased safety, driving comfort and environmental protection. FAG Bearings India Ltd. is also the first bearings company in India to be certified by TUV for ISO 9001 QS 9000/TS 16949 certification as well as to ISO 14001 for Environment Management System.

INA India, situated in Pune, is an automotive supplier of precision components for engines, transmissions and chassis applications. INA India has targeted a production volume of 65.8 million pieces for  year 2009. Currently INA India supplies locally all valve train components, chain drive elements, transmission cages. Further expansion programms are Clutch Release Bearing and Water Pump Bearing to meet requirements of all major Automotive OEMs like Maruti Udyog Limited, Suzuki Power train India Ltd, Tata Motors, Hyundai Motors, Ford India, Fiat India, Mahindra & Mahindra and General Motors. INA India is Certified with ISO 14001,EMAS & OHSAS 18001.

The Automotive Aftermarket Division of LuK India supplies the local independent automotive aftermarket with LuK and INA products, whilst FAG products are supplied via FAG Bearings India Ltd. The local LuK product range includes a complete programme of clutch sytems for passenger cars, light and heavy commercial vehicles, multi-utility vehicles and tractors as well as service solutions, such as RepSet, the full-service package for professional clutch repair.
