The workshops aimed at providing an in depth knowledge to the students for the use of the isokinetic dynamometer in advanced rehabilitation for athletes and general patients.
The department of Physiotherapy at Manav Rachna International University, Faridabad had recently successfully concluded a series of Isokinetic Dynamometer Workshops at their campus. The workshop was inaugurated by Dr. Ram Babu, HOD of Physiotherapy, TDTR DAV College of Physiotherapy, Yamuna Nagar. The workshops were also attended by more than 50 enthusiastic interns from various hospitals of NCR including RML hospital, Jaipur Golden Hospital and Sunflag Hospital etc.
The first, second and third series of workshops were conducted on 30th Jan, 6th and 20th February 2011 wherein the Physiotherapists showed tremendous zeal and enthusiasm for the relatively new concept of isokinetic dynamometry.
In her session Dr. Pooja Anand, Asst. Prof. & HOD BPT, who highlighted the initiatives taken at MRIU and has now emerged as a centre of excellence imparting research based quality education in various specialties. Dr. Pavas Jaiswal, HOD, FAS introduced the KINCOM isokinetic system, while Dr. Shalini Grover, HOD, MPT explained the basis and basics of isokinetic dynamometry carried by a constructive session on the principles, parameters and testing protocols of the KINCOM. The session was concluded by explaining the importance of isokinetic rehabilitation protocols in sports and orthopedic conditions.
“In the next few years Physiotherapy is sure to reach great new heights, MRIU is the only university in the NCR REGION TO HAVE specialty physiotherapy treatment facilities. The Isokinetic dynamometry equipments that we have at our campus are amongst the best and help in providing quality rehabilitation to patients with muscular and ligamentous injuries”, said Dr. GL Khanna, Dean, FAS.
Isokinetic dynamometry has also been used for the training of various muscle groups in order to improve the muscular performance in dynamic conditions. The movement velocity of different activities can be simulated during training in order to improve the training effect. The workshop offered hands on experience to the students and gave them in depth knowledge of the use of the isokinetic dynamometer in advanced rehabilitation for athletes and general patients.
