SEW Infrastructure (SEW), a leading Indian infrastructure construction company has selected Oracle’s E-Business Suite Release 12 for monitoring Rs 13, 425 crore (US$ 3 bn) worth of projects and managing equipment worth Rs 671.25 crores (US$ 150 million). Deployed on a “software as a service” private cloud model to offer access to vendors and sub-contractors, the system reduced materials costs by 3% to 4%. Oracle E-Business Suite was chosen for its compliance and customizability in a cost effective manner.

The Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12 has been deployed at SEW on the “software as a service” (SaaS), private cloud based model, to offer access to vendors and sub-contractors. This enables sub-contractors to eliminate capital investments by leveraing pre-configured and customized application suites ready to run their business.
As part of the company’s strategic initiative to standardize it’s internal processes, SEW invested in Oracle Applications and technology in 2008 to:
- Improve business efficiency across it’s nationwide projects in financial and materials management (i.e. automate financial reporting, streamline supply chain management, and track real-time project execution)
- Monitor staff tracking (6500 full-time staff at project sites and regional offices in Hyderabad, New Delhi, Kolkata and Vijaywada, Singapore and Indonesia)
- Measure efficiency of assets
- Offer quick and easy access to it’s digital documentation
The Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12 has significantly reduced the time required for multiple accounting jobs such as balance sheet preparation, auditing, payments processing and maintenance of asset books. It also allows SEW’s accountants keep up with the latest tax laws across India that vary by state.
The Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12 applications in use include Oracle Financials, Oracle Procurement, Oracle Inventory Management, Oracle Human Resources, Oracle Payroll, Oracle Self-Service Human Resources, Oracle Enterprise Asset Management, Oracle Process Manufacturing and Oracle Projects. The intranet is based on Oracle WebCenter Suite and Oracle Universal Content Management.

Oracle Universal Content Management is used to store and manage payment vouchers, invoices, warranty documents, equipment manuals and other documents required for tax and statutory purposes. SEW manages insurance claims more efficiently by retrieving supporting documents such as policy proofs, invoices and incident images. The UCM also stores documentation required during project bidding in a secure manner, as opposed to saving and circulating confidential information through USB drives or e-mails.
