Marking an important milestone, SpiceJet, India’s most preferred low fare airline, inaugurated its first international flight amidst Commonwealth Games fanfare here today. The flight from New Delhi to Kathmandu was flagged from the Indira Gandhi International Airport Terminal 3 by The Honorable Minister of Civil Aviation, Shri Praful Patel. The flight took off at 0730 hrs with full load of 189 passengers on board.
The SpiceJet senior officials present at the occasion included Kishore Gupta - Director/CEO, Bhulo Kansagra – Promoter and Director, and Samyukth Sridharan – Chief Commercial Officer, SpiceJet Ltd. , besides the Leadership Team.
Announcing its maiden flight to Kathmandu, Mr. Kishore Gupta-Director/CEO, SpiceJet Ltd said, “As SpiceJet makes its first international foray, today marks an important milestone not just in the success story of SpiceJet, but also that of Low-Cost Carrier segment in India. With every new destination, we are moving closer to realizing our vision of replicating the success of the internationally successful LCC model in India. SpiceJet, which completed 5 years of successful domestic operations earlier this year, is the first Indian budget airline to start international operations. The Delhi-Kathmandu flights will be followed very shortly by its first flight from Chennai to Colombo on October 9, 2010.
