Tata Power synchronises 525 MW Unit 2 of Jharkhand plant

Tata Power, India's largest integrated power utility, today announced the successful synchronisation of its second unit of 525 MW (Unit 2) of its Maithon Mega Power Project in Dhanbad, Jharkhand under the requisite standard requirements. The first Unit of 525 MW (Unit 1) was commissioned in September 2011. 

With this development, Tata Power's gross generation capacity has touched 5297 MW making it the largest private sector power generating company as well. The Company is also one of the largest renewable player in the country with significant capacity in wind and solar.The current generation mix of the Company is as follows: 

Maithon Power Limited (MPL), the 74:26 Joint Venture between Tata Power and Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) is implementing a 2 x 525 MW coal-fired power project power in Jharkhand. MPL is the first successful public-private partnership in green field generation project in the country. 

Speaking on this milestone, Mr. Anil Sardana, Managing Director, Tata Power, said, “The synchronisation of Maithon 525 MW Unit 2 today is a significant milestone. With this development, Tata Power's gross generation capacity has touched 5297 MW reaffirming its contribution as the largest integrated power company in India.

MPL has firmed up fuel supplies from Coal India Limited and its subsidiaries. Bharat Coking Coal Limited and Central Coal Fields Limited are committed to supplying coal to the project.
