Tata Tele surges ahead with robust growth across subscriber additions, enhanced revenues

Tata Teleservices (Maharashtra) Limited today announced its quarterly, consolidated financial results for the period ended 31st December, 2009.

Quarterly Highlights:

  • TTML launched GSM services in August 2009.  GSM services were on offer in the third quarter for the full quarter, as compared to part of the quarter in the second quarter.
  • The extremely successful launch of TATA DOCOMO has given a significant boost to subscriber additions and revenues.
  • The subscriber base at the end of the third quarter stood at 11.5 mn – an increase of 74% over the corresponding quarter of the previous year. TTML’s Rest of Maharashtra circle has crossed 7 mn wireless subscribers, and TTML is now the 2nd largest operator in this geography.  TTML’s Mumbai circle has crossed 4 mn subscribers, and the Company is now the 3rd largest operator in this geography. 
  • Wireless Minutes of Use (MoUs) grew 39% over the corresponding quarter of the previous year. 
  • TTML registered its highest ever incremental wireless market share of 33.8% in the third quarter.
  • TTML’s incremental wireline market share was 58% in the third quarter, and its end of period wireline subscriber market share amongst the private players has been maintained above the 50% mark.
  • Revenues grew by 16% to Rs. 603 crores for the quarter ended December 31, 2009, compared to Rs. 518 crores for the corresponding quarter of the previous year, and by 10% as compared to Rs. 550 crores for the immediate preceding quarter.
  • The Company registered an EBITDA of Rs. 135 crores with an EBITDA margin of 22% for the quarter ended December 31, 2009, compared to Rs. 151 crores for the corresponding quarter of the previous year, and Rs 121 crores for the immediate preceding quarter. 
  • TTML is the only network across Mumbai and Maharashtra to be rated congestion-free in five consecutive reports published by TRAI. TTML had also been rated, in independent studies commissioned by TRAI, as the No. 1 wireless operator in terms of overall customer satisfaction in its geography.
  • The tenancy ratio of 21st Century Infra Tele Limited, as of December 2009, is at 2.1.

Nine monthly Highlights:

  • TTML is No. 1 in terms of incremental wireless and wireline subscriber additions for the nine months ended December 31, 2009.
  • In the month of December, the Company crossed the 11 million subscribers milestone, inclusive of over 600,000 wireline subscribers.
  • The Company has advanced its capital expenditure plans in response to the success of the Company’s offerings. 
  • Revenues grew by 8% to Rs. 1,666 crores for the nine months ended December 31, 2009, compared to Rs. 1,541 crores for the corresponding period of the previous year. 
  • The Company registered an EBITDA of Rs. 414 crores with an EBITDA margin of 25% for the nine months ended December 31, 2009, compared to Rs. 468 crores for the corresponding period of the previous year.
  • Wireless Minutes of Use (MoUs) grew 26% over the corresponding nine month period of the previous year.
  • The tenancy ratio of 21st Century Infra Tele Limited, as of December 2009, is at 2.1.
