New Websense Web Security Gateway Anywhere includes Data Loss Prevention, Hybrid SaaS and On-Premise Capabilities, as well as the latest in Advanced Persistent Threat Prevention Capabilities - All in One Solution Package
Websense, Inc. (NASDAQ: WBSN), a global leader in unified Web, data and email security solutions, today announced the availability of Websense® Web Security Gateway Anywhere™ solution, a secure Web gateway that delivers industry firsts in threat and risk prevention and deployment capabilities.
The Websense Web Security Gateway Anywhere is part of the TRITON ™system, the first and only unified content security architecture and delivers several industry firsts, including:
- The first and only secure Web gateway to include enterprise-class data loss prevention (DLP) for the Web with TruWeb DLP™
- The first secure Web gateway with extensive coverage for applications and content types including Rich Internet Applications, more than 7,500 Facebook applications, Security-as-a-Service (SaaS) applications, Phone Home and outbound malware, proxy avoidance and many others
- The first and only secure Web gateway to combine the power of on-premise deployment with the flexibility of a full SaaS with TruHybrid™ deployment
- The first and only DLP and secure Web gateway system to be unified on virtualized appliances with availability on the Websense V-series appliances™, including the Websense V5000™ appliance, available in June, 2010, for branch office and medium business deployments
- The first and only secure Web gateway in a unified content security system under one management system, the TRITON console
“Today’s modern threats that seek to steal confidential data through the Web, demand a security solution that allows me to have complete visibility across my organization, and set security policies uniformly, whether an employee is on-premise or in the field,” said Larry Whiteside, CISO, Visiting Nurse Service of N.Y. “With Websense Web Security Gateway Anywhere, I have confidence that my organization is protected from advanced threats. The best part is that I can manage everything from one console, no other vendor offers this.”
Embedded Data Loss Prevention with TruWeb DLP
The Websense Web Security Gateway Anywhere solution includes Websense market-leading data loss prevention technology embedded to prevent data loss through the Web. TruWeb DLP doesn’t compromise DLP capability for consolidation, instead it offers Websense full DLP capabilities for Web channels, including SSL, without compromising functionality, ease of use or expandability to other channels like email, USB and discovery.

TruWeb DLP functionality is critical to address compliance concerns and advanced persistent threats. With just a few clicks from the same administration console, organizations can proactively enforce data policies to meet regulatory requirements, detect and protect sensitive information from leaving the enterprise and enable more than 1200 policies through an intuitive policy wizard to secure both who and what, can go where on the Web. This includes full reporting, incident management and end-user education to protect from data breaches or loss over the Web: one of the most pervasive concerns today, with 58 percent of all data-stealing attacks conducted over the Web. This protection capability can easily be expanded to additional channels - to the endpoint and for data at rest - with just a few additional clicks and without redeploying the management, policies or system.
“Modern businesses want to harness the power of new communication, collaboration and Web 2.0 business tools, but they also want to be protected from advanced persistent threats that are so pervasive,” said Gene Hodges, chief executive officer, Websense. “Websense Security Gateway Anywhere delivers modern security to fight today’s threats at the lowest total cost of ownership. By enabling our industry-leading Web security and Web DLP to be deployed both on-premise and as SaaS from one single management console, we’re making it easier for our customers to leverage the Web-based tools that they need for their business, while protecting their essential information.”
Introducing more flexibility in deployment with TruHybrid and the new V5000 Appliance
Along with the many advancements in content detection and threat prevention capabilities, the hybrid deployment capabilities increase solution coverage options while reducing cost and complexity. The TruHybrid functionality allows organizations to deploy Websense both on-premise and in the cloud at different points in the enterprise and manage security, reporting and policies centrally from the new Websense TRITON console. This reduces time, complexity and the overhead and cost of administering disparate systems. It also ensures that security policies are enforced uniformly throughout the organization, protecting from the most advanced blended attacks.
“The introduction of Websense Web Security Gateway Anywhere with its TruHybrid deployment option is an industry first,” said Chris Sawall, CISSP, supervisor – Information Security & BCP for Ameren Corporation. “Now organizations don’t have to purchase two separate solutions – one appliance for the office and one SaaS solution for their remote workers. With Websense they can have the flexibility to deploy both and manage them from a single console – which saves time and overhead. Websense Web Security Gateway Anywhere delivers security protection from today’s dynamic blended Internet threats and protects essential information from outbound data loss, which is a real concern in today’s post-Operation Aurora threat landscape.”
In addition to the new Web Security Gateway Anywhere TruHybrid, Websense is announcing the expansion of its V-Series ™ appliances with the addition of the new Websense V5000™ appliance for branch office and medium business deployments where on-premise solution deployment is required. A scaled version of the larger V10000 appliance, the V5000 provides another option for customers of all sizes to take advantage of the Advanced Categorization Engine and the TRITON architecture to reduce complexity and IT footprint and provide small to medium sized businesses the same flexible deployment, state of the art security and flexible deployment models inherent within Websense solutions. Since moving into the appliance space with the introduction of the V-series, Websense has had explosive growth in the field, with more than 1000 V-series units sold in the first seven months of release- the highest rate of growth of any enterprise class content security appliance product - according to IDC analyst Jon Crotty.
“IDC believes that unified content security solutions with a hybrid architecture offer enterprises an opportunity to deploy "borderless security" to help address their mobility, remote worker, and branch office security issues,” said Chris Christiansen, Program Vice President, Security Products and Services, IDC. “IDC encourages organizations to explore Websense's business proposition, which provides a flexible selection of deployment choices including software, appliance, and SaaS solutions.”(1)
Both the Websense Web Security Gateway and V10000 are currently available for deployment.
The Websense V5000 will be available to qualified organizations as part of an early adopter program and is planned to reach full general availability for upgrade and purchase in June 2010.
“Websense continues to innovate its product line through new deployment models and increasing levels of security research and pre-programmed Web, email and data policies,” said Gordon Shevlin, executive vice president at Fishnet Security. “With the general availability of Websense Web Security Gateway Anywhere, and the upcoming V5000, Websense has widened its leadership in the content security market, making it even easier for customers to protect their essential information. We anticipate significant interest in both products in the coming year.”
