SMUGGLERS ---------------- Phagwara(Pb): Two drug peddlers were arrested here and 10 grams of heroin and 295 grams of intoxicating powder seized from them, police said The arrests were made under various sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, they said. ------------- Village ------------- Chandigarh: Haryana Chief Parliamentary Secretary Prahlad Singh Gillankhera said the state government would spend over Rs 100 crore on village Gorakhpur in district Fatehabad to develop it as a model village. He said with the setting up of a nuclear power plant at village Gorakhpur, new projects would be developed for the benefit of the people of the area, according to an official spokesman. ----------- Education ------------- Chandigarh: The Haryana Elementary Education Department has incurred a sum of over Rs 2,548 crore till January 15 this year out of the total budget allocation of over Rs 3,108 crore for the current fiscal. Informing this, Education Minister Geeta Bhukkal said access of education to all is one of the primary focus areas of the state government. She said free text books and work books and scholarships were being given to children to reduce school dropout rate and to provide quality education to each and every student. ---------------- GRAFT ---------------- Chandigarh: Two police officials, including an Inspector, were arrested by the Haryana State Vigilance Bureau for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 7,000. Inspector Surender Singh and head constable Dinesh Kuma were caught red-handed yesterday while they were accepting the bribe from a resident of village Nakalpur in Mewat district for not registering case against him, the Bureau said.
