The atrocities perpetrated by the mafias accounted for 7.78 per cent complaints, while 5.65 per cent cases were related to women, the BHRC Chairman said.
With redressal of justice becoming costly, time consuming and complex affair in the courts, he said that a large number of people have started knocking the BHRC's door to seek speedy disposal of complaints.
The BHRC's importance has grown as it works on a mechanism to expeditiously dispose of complaints by hearing various parties to a dispute at a couple of sittings, Justice Jha said.
He said BHRC was also playing a key role in strengthening democratic fabric of the country by bringing to book those guilty of human rights violation of the people.
