Gen Singh, in his address to officers during a farewell visit at the Eastern Command Headquarters at Fort William, which he had headed before taking over as Army chief, complimented them for taking care of a major part of the northern front most efficiently and in a professional manner.
Gen Singh also spoke on shifting global paradigms in the context of the Indian Army.
Army chief designate Lt Gen Bikram Singh assured the outgoing chief of carrying forward and consolidating the initiatives that concerned operational preparedness, including the welfare of ex-servicemen and soldiers.
The outgoing chief released a collection of three books - Northeast Triology - that aimed to demystify the mystique of the eastern region and includes in its ambit Sikkim, the northern part of West Bengal and the seven North-eastern states.
"It is always a pleasure to be at Eastern Command. I am pleased at all the progress made by the Command," wrote the Army chief in his remarks.
He also interacted with several veterans, officers and serving soldiers.
Gen Singh who retires on May 31, was accompanied by President of the Army Wives Welfare Association Bharti Singh.
