numbering 250 from Bangladesh's Chittagong Hill Tracts who sought to cross over to India, have returned home, BSF sources said today.
The tribals who were waiting on the Bangladesh side of the barbed wire fencing on the border since Saturday at Shuknachhari in South Tripura district left for home after a flag meeting between the BSF and the Border Guards of Bangladesh (BGB), the sources said.
The BGB personnel who arrived at the spot yesterday after being informed by the BSF were able to convince the tribals that security would be provided to them, they said.
The Chakma and Tripuri villagers of Tabalchari in Khagrachari district of Chittagong Hill Tracts fled their homes fearing attacks on Saturday as Bengali settlers took out a protest march and chanted anti-Chakma slogans following an incident of robbery, the sources said.
