Addressing a press conference, state BJP spokesman Madhav Bhandari took objection to Chavan's comments made yesterday that an economic survey or a report on irrigation was as good as a white paper.
"This is a gimmick to avoid a punchnama of the irrigation sector which can be done only through a white paper. It has been our demand since long," he said.
After the cabinet meeting on Wednesday, Chavan had said an economic survey was as good as a white paper. "A white paper is after all a report. It will be done in 15 days," he had said.
The alliance partner in the government NCP, which holds the Irrigation portfolio, is reportedly against bringing out white paper on irrigation.
Bhandari said a delegation of state BJP leaders would meet Governor K Sankaranarayanan tomorrow to submit more details on the drought situation in the state.
"Many villages, where the crop yield is less than 50 paise, have not been included for drought relief measures,"he charged.
