CPIM and left workers were being attacked and not allowed to campaign for the civic polls by the Trinamool Congress, CPIM leader Rabin Deb told reporters after a meeting with Chief Secretary Samar Ghose at the state secretariat.

Even workers of Congress, an ally of Trinamool Congress were attacked, and Left workers were being arrested, he alleged.

Deb said he met the chief secretary as the state election commission had conveyed to the party that since it was a law amd order issue the administration should be contacted.

He said he had the state election commission four times on the issue and Left Front chairman Biman Bose had also written to it, but no action was taken.

"The commission told us that they cannot do anything regarding law and order and asked us to contact the state administration. That's why we met the chief secretary to voice our grievances," he said.

Deb said that the chief secretary assured the Left delegation to look into the matter.

Elections will be held to the Haldia, Panskura, Nalhati, Dhupguri, Durgapur Municipal Corporation and Coopers Camp notified area.
