J S Bindra, a Class I officer in Directorate of Advertising and Visual Publicity, was found hanging at his residence in Mayur Vihar Phase-II this afternoon by his family.

Bindra was transfered from Delhi and was to take charge in Dehradun next Monday.

"His wife and two children had gone to a nearby gurudwara in the afternoon. He took the extreme step between 2 PM and 3 PM," a senior police official said.

His son is an engineering student, while his daughter has appeared for Class XII exams and awaiting results.

When the wife and children returned, the official said, they found the door locked from inside and Bindra was not responding to doorbells.

"Someone entered the home through the ventilator and unlocked the house. Bindra was found hanging. He was rushed to Vimla Devi hospital where he was declared brought dead," the official said.

Asked whether the transfer order has to do something with Bindra taking the extreme step, he said, they were investigating all angles.

"We are investigating all angles, including whether there was any harassment in office. We were told that he was under depression due to some reasons," the official said.

The body has been sent for post mortem.
