"Eighty dengue afflictions have been confirmed so far, but that there is no cause for panic as the health department has taken up preventive measures to combat the spread of the vector-borne disease," minister of state for health Chandrima Bhattacharya said here.
The minister said that some private hospitals have admitted some patients with suspected dengue, but no specific report has been submitted to the health department.
Health department sources said that Rs 16 lakh for Kolkata, Rs three lakh each for Salt Lake, Asansol, Howrah and Rs 75,000 for other affected areas have been sanctioned for awareness programmes about dengue.
The Kolkata Municipal Corporation has embarked on a massive preventive programme by forming a team of experts who would evolve a common treatment protocol against dengue.
Fogging operations have been started in most of the wards, particularly Kasba, Tiljala, Anandapur and other areas.
