Sahayam, recently transferred as Managing Director of Co-Optex Ltd, has sent his report to the State Industries department Principal Secretary N Sundaradevan on the granite quarrying taking place in Melur.
A copy of Sahayam's report was released to the media by RTI Activist V Anbhazhagan here today.
"The loss related to illegal quarrying at Keelavalavu, Keelayur, E Malampatti and Semminipatti villages in the district by some private players is expected to be around Rs 16,338 crore to the exchequer", Sahayam said in the report RPT report.
In the 13-page report RPT report, he said during an inspection of three granite quarries on April 3 2012, granites of 1,824, 1,489 and 1,198 Cubic Metres were alleged to be mined illegally."The total loss to the State government due to the three quarries alone is around Rs 23.42 crore," he said.
Sahayam said the state-government owned Tamil Nadu Minerals Ltd could have earned several crores of revenue if it had managed the mines on its own instead of leaving it to private players.
He alleged that some government officials had financially benefited from the private players in order to facilitiate the illegal granite quarrying.
To a query, Anbhazhagan said their next course of action would be to present the details to Chief Secretary Debendranath Sarangi soon and demanding probe.
